Avignonesi

Avignonesi is located in the south-east of Tuscany, has 10 vineyard properties spread out over the Montepulciano and Cortona production areas for a total of 200 hectares of vines. Vigna Tonda and Vigna della Stella witness all the time the obsessive pursuit of the expression of the terroir. Virginie Saverys, from the family of Belgian ship tycoon bought the Avignonesi in 2009, they are on the path of practice organic and biodynamic since then, and become the biggest biodynamic winery in Italy.
At the end of 13th century, relying on its powerful force, French king Philip IV had a fierce conflict with the Vatican, persecuted Pope the Clement V to move the Vatican to Avion France in the early 14th century. After over half a century of fight, Pope Gregory XI finally brought the Vatican back to Roman in 1377. Some French aristocratic family also came back with the Pope, one of them settled in Montpulciano. The pronunciation of French name was quite difficult for the Italians, so the locals called them Avignonesi (who came from Avignon), since then the Avignonesi established their winery.
Vino Nobile di Montepulciano was loved by Medici Family and other Tuscan noblemen, it was named noble wine by 18th century.
Avignonesi has repeatedly won authoritative magazine《Wine Spectator》of the World Wine Top 100, including the noble wine of 2003, 2007, 2010 and reserve noble wine Grandi Annate of 1997; Vin Santo 1990 even got 100 points of the magazine.
Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States of America, was recognized wine lover of all the presidents. In the letter he wrote to his friend once said: Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is the best wine to me, I have never tasted such pleasant wine, I can’t live without it from now on… It compares the best wine of Burgundy!
