Château Meyney

Chateau Meyney is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc. In 1662, it was a Convent mentioned in records of the time under the name “Couvent des Feuillants”. Today, the estate stretches over some of the best hilltops above the Gironde Estuary. The river lying alongside the first rows of vines makes for a majestic, serene landscape.

Superbly situated on a knoll that overlooks the Gironde estuary, the Chateau Meyney is an estate of 50 hectares on one plot. The glorious past of this wine began during the 17th century with the Feuillants priests. While owners have been plentiful over the last three century, the qualities of this wine have always been recognized. Each owner made contribution to the current fame of this vineyard.

The Meyney vineyard is in a single plot, covering an impressive 51 hectares, adjoining Phélan-Ségur. It enjoys an attractive position on gravel ridges overlooking the Gironde, beneath which is a mix of iron-rich blue clay and sand, over calcareous bedrock from a depth of about two meters.

In the earth of the Saint-Estèphe AOC, this wine is composed of a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon, around 60% and some Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. That gives rich, full-bodied and rounded wines with cherry aromas and spicy notes.
