Hagenschloss

The Hagenschloss family name is well-known in Alsace, place where this family lives and produces wines since more than two hundred years in the Zotzenberg of Mittelbergheim area. From father to son, despite all of the vagaries of history, they have perpetually passed their vineyard on their heritage.

The Zotzenberg basin lies on the south flank of the Mittelbergheim hillside, rising to an altitude of 320 metres. Facing east and south, it enjoys privileged exposure to the sun. It consist of Jurassic limestone and marl, plus Oligocene limestone-marl conglomerates. This combination ensures moisture retention and resists drought.

At the origin of the Alsace AOC, Joseph Hagenschloss has extended the vineyards and increased the quality by using modern methods mixed with ancestral tradition. One can’t be a winemaker without passion: the severity of the elements, the limitless work required by the vines leading to the prestigious results obtained each year demand a special passion – the one that burns within us. It was this passion that drove Joseph Hagenschloss to develop his vineyard on the slopes of the Zotzenberg.
